Really, Not Much Today

Except for all the news that was news yesterday… there was not much that was different today.

Phil did post a video from his car yesterday. Aside from it having to do with Egyptians (?) I have no clue what he was trying to say. (“Walk Like An Egyptian” by the Bangles, was the song he was playing in his car. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if something happens regarding Egypt ?)

Oh, and about 40 years ago, when I was living in NYC, working part-time at the Museum of Modern Art, and was a singer-songwriter, playing the clubs at night , I had a very active crush on the guy who’d produced “Walk Like An Egyptian”, among a million other songs and albums. He was very nice to me and flirted with me constantly. MoMA was basically next door to Columbia Records, where the guy worked, and he was newly divorced at that time and lived in a very upscale apartment building on the other side of MoMA, so he was constantly at MoMA. Anyway. eventually, he was suddenly really, really rude to me and I had a real problem with that, so that fizzled out fast.

Anyway. That was 40 years ago. And I digress. I’m guessing that had nothing to do with Phil’s post.

Morning-listening music!

Yes! More from Dwight Yoakam’s greatest hits. The hugely popular, “Buenas Noches From A Lonely Room (She Wore Red Dresses)” from his 3rd #1 Country music album of the same name, 1988. (And this album is included in the book, 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.)

This song is one of the many of his hits that he also wrote. He did many great cover versions of old Country & Western hits, but he was also a great songwriter. This is a true Country & Western murder ballad!! Beautiful and addicting. Enjoy, gang.

Buenas Noches From a Lonely Room (She Wore Red Dresses)

She wore red dresses with her black shining hair
She had my baby and caused me to care
Then coldly she left me to suffer and cry
Oh, she wore red dresses and told such sweet lies

[Instrumental Break]

I never knew him but he took her away
And on my knees like a madman for vengeance I prayed
While the pain and the anger destroyed my weak mind
Oh, she wore red dresses and left the wounded behind

[Instrumental Break]

I searched till I found them, then I cursed at the sight
Of their sleeping shadows in the cold neon light
In the dark morning silence, I placed the gun to her head
Oh, she wore red dresses but now she lay dead

c – 1988 Dwight Yoakam
