Getting Closer!

Seven more days, gang.

Of course, fear mongers out there are now starting the rumor that the Left won’t concede, won’t ratify the results of the election because Trump is a felon and so they will put him in prison, etc., etc. That there is no end in sight to this, even if Trump wins…

I guess we’ll see.

There are still plenty of people who believe something really terrible is going to happen this week, that will cancel the election entirely. OR that Trump will end up running unopposed. OR that the Left (who is mostly already in gitmo or have already been executed) will try to rig the outcome yet again….

We just have to wait and see.

I am, of course, still undecided. I usually take my cues about who to vote for from Putin and he endorses Kamala… what to do, what to do.

Of course, just kidding.

The Daily Feature!

What Would Keith Richards Do?

From the inevitable Chapter Five: Daily Affirmations, the subject today is Inspirations & Influences. On Phil Spector (convicted murderer, now deceased, and the ex-husband of Ronnie, a woman Keith absolutely adored), Keith advises:

“Phil is, was, and always will be a complete weirdo.”

So, I guess if Phil Spector comes up on a pop quiz or something for you today, there’s your answer!

The late Ronnie Spector & Keith Richards

And that is it for today.

Have a terrific Tuesday, wherever you are in the world!!

This morning’s breakfast-listening-music!!

Once again, Elvis Costello & the Attractions. From about 1977 until the late 80s, I really loved Elvis Costello. But for some reason, he fell off my radar after that. I think because my life started to get stupidly busy when my fiction-writing career began to take off while I was still a singer-songwriter with a 4-piece band, actively performing in clubs in NYC.

This song below astounded me when I first heard it. I thought the prosody of the lyrics was fantastic and I really studied them, wondering how I could ever write a song like it. (I never did! ) Anyway.

“Beyond Belief”, from Imperial Bedroom, 1982. Elvis Costello & the Attractions. Enjoy, gang!

“Beyond Belief”

History repeats the old conceits
The glib replies the same defeats
Keep your finger on important issues
With crocodile tears and a pocketful of tissues
I’m just the oily slick
On the windup world of the nervous tick
In a very fashionable hovel

I hang around dying to be tortured
You’ll never be alone in the bone orchard
This battle with the bottle is nothing so novel

So in this almost empty gin palace
Through a two-way looking glass
You see your Alice

You know she has no sense
For all your jealousy
In a sense she still smiles very sweetly

Charged with insults and flattery
Her body moves with malice
Do you have to be so cruel to be callous

And now you find you fit this identikit completely
You say you have no secrets
And then leave discreetly

[Chorus:]
I might make it California’s fault
Be locked in Geneva’s deepest vault
Just like the canals of Mars and the great barrier reef
I come to you beyond belief

My hands were clammy and cunning
She’s been suitably stunning
But I know there’s not a hope in Hades
All the laddies cat call and wolf whistle
So-called gentlemen and ladies
Dog fight like rose and thistle

I’ve got a feeling
I’m going to get a lot of grief
Once this seemed so appealing
Now I am beyond belief

[Chorus]

c – 1982 Elvis Costello
