Last day of the old life!!

Yes, tomorrow, we set our clocks an hour ahead and I officially go into that feeling of overdrive, trying to catch up with the hour that’s gone until next Fall.

However.

As usual, I have decided to adapt.

Which means that starting tomorrow: I sleep in a tiny bit later in the mornings (or stay in bed, I should say; I’m usually awake for awhile before getting out of bed).

And then once I’m done with taking care of all the cats and then getting my own breakfast (that whole thing takes 2 hours, literally), I won’t be going back to bed with my cup of coffee, etc. I’ll just sit down at my desk and get to work.

This way, I won’t really notice the missing hour because I’ll still be getting everything done.

Me. Handling it. All Spring and Summer.

Before I forget–

I really, really want to thank whoever it is who keeps updating my Wikipedia page. I really appreciate it. I honestly do.

Thank you.

Okay, yesterday was cool!!

After I left my favorite 95-year-old Japanese man’s house, I stopped in at the local bookstore in Granville to speak to the owner about carrying The Curse of Our Profound Disorder when it comes out in the Fall.

I know the owner very casually, but she was very supportive and said she will definitely stock my book in her store! Yay!

And, as an aside–

While I was waiting to speak to her, I glanced at one of the bookshelves in front of me and what to my wondering eyes should appear???!!!

Yes!!

I couldn’t fucking believe it, gang.

I mean, out of all the books in the store, I walk in and the very first book I focus on — and it was the spine facing out, not even the cover facing out.

I said to myself: What’s this? And I pulled the book out and it’s a new re-issue, with a new cover. But it was still A Coney Island of the Mind by Ferlinghetti!

You gotta be kidding me, right?

But I took it as a good sign! And I figured, I probably shouldn’t steal it because it could get me off on the wrong foot with the owner….

(That’s a joke. If you’re new to the blog — A Coney Island of the Mind was the one & only book I ever stole from a bookstore, at the mall, when I was 13, because I had to have it and I had no money.)

Anyway.

The meeting was really great. And my publisher had printed up a nice promo flyer that I had left at the bookstore a couple days ago, when the owner wasn’t in. And yesterday, the owner said she had really liked the flyer and had no idea I had done all that stuff…

(I think it has something to do with my living in almost complete seclusion for the last 5 years or so. Pre-lockdowns.)

As loyal readers of this lofty blog no doubt recall, I’d been stressing a lot about re-appearing in this polarized world, to promote this specific book. But it went so well.

I left the store and told myself: Okay. I can deal with this.

Okay.

Oddly enough, I only have one “here’s this” for today!!

But it’s from Phyllis Stein —

Here’s this! Keith, in NYC, in 2001!

This is a re-post from James Tabor, but it is a subject that is very dear to my heart. You might enjoy it.

“Zoom lecture on how Yaaqov, more commonly known as James the brother of Jesus, or James the Just, was largely removed from our New Testament Gospels and the Book of Acts. In contrast, Paul knows him only too well–and realizes James is the one Jesus left in charge of the movement.”

And that’s all I actually have for today.

For some weird reason, I don’t have any repairmen coming back to the house until Thursday, so on Monday, my next day off, I will try to get down to work on writing 2 new short stories, as well as my contribution to the anthology honoring M. Christian.

We will see how it all goes with this new schedule, starting tomorrow, of sitting down at my desk by 7 AM.

All right.

Enjoy your Saturday, wherever you are in the world!!

Thanks for visiting.

I love you guys. See ya!

I leave you with this!!

Last evening, when I came up to my bedroom to get ready to call it a night, I switched on the Oldies FM radio station on my retro boombox just as this gem was coming on!!

My god, gang, I still knew every single note and word to this fucking song!!

The fantastic, “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. 1988. Crank it up and sing along!! I sure did. Enjoy, gang!!
