Happy 4th of July from the Hinterlands!

I hope everyone living State-side has a great holiday!!

Here, it is gloomy and humid and likely to rain off & on all day, but I’m still planning to have a great day.

Even though I have nothing planned, I have some really great memories of July 4th, growing up in Cleveland and always going off somewhere to see fireworks and have picnics and cookouts. And that, alone, makes me really happy.

I might watch this today:

The Trouble with Angels (1966) ORIGINAL TRAILER

Or I might watch this:

A Summer Place (1959) Official Trailer:

Or I might watch this:

Gidget (1959) ORIGINAL TRAILER

Most of all, let’s not forget this today:

Okay. That’s it!! Let the holiday begin.

Enjoy your 4th of July Thursday, wherever you are in the world!!

Thanks for visiting, gang.

I love you guys. See ya!!

Feeling Like A Holiday Already!

For the most part, it will be hot and sunny here today — maybe a little rain in the early evening.

And since I am waiting on input from Sandra regarding the screenplay, I will pretty much have the day off around here. Yay!

It seems like most people are taking a few days off for the holiday. I have little to post here except for Charlie’s daily news update — without Charlie. And Matt Roeske’s video from Monday.

Oh, there was also this very short video from Nigel Watson, who is in Finland now. A hopeful bit of optimism!

Hopeful – Not a video for the doom-mongers! (4 mins):

And in other news!!

So far, I’ve found only one person who has posted photos from Nick Cave’s solo concert last night in Iceland! It’s almost like cell phones are illegal there or something…. Anyway. Here we go:

And Cleveland History posted another cool photo yesterday from the Stones concert I attended in Cleveland in 1975!

And that is it, gang.

If you live State-side, get your party started!! If you live anywhere else in the world, have a happy Wednesday.

Thanks for visiting.

I love you guys. See ya!!

I’ve been in a Link Wray frame of mind around here — and who wouldn’t be, with the big summer holiday practically upon us?? “Deuces Wild” from 1964. Enjoy, gang!! And rock yer summer!!!

It Actually Feels Like A Vacation!

I absolutely never get to go on vacations.

My “vacations” always involve work in some way — writing, publishing, book signings, readings, or, most recently, our play was produced in Toronto.

But, since Sunday and until Friday, I am here at my lovely abode in the Hinterlands with stunningly beautiful weather and nothing to do but sit at my desk and work on the screenplay adaptation of “The Guide to Being Fabulous” .

The house is clean, the laundry is done, the yard and the flowers look fantastic (and my first rose finally bloomed!). I already went to town on Sunday to run all the errands…

So I’m just here. Feeling happy and relaxed for a change!!

Okay.

Phil’s live was a little bit odd, but I guess he is still targeting people who are still just waking up to what’s been going on for the last several years. So, in my opinion, some of the stuff he was saying leaned more on the side of optics. Still, it was a good, quick update.

And who will be the surprise person “returning”??? I’m still thinking JFK JR. but I guess we will find out soon enough.

Here is the replay if you missed it last night.

Okay.

I forgot to announce here yesterday that I am once again participating in the annual Smashwords Summer eBook Sale, which means that all of my titles with Smashwords can be downloaded for FREE for the month of July. They are intended for adult readers only.

I have already had about 100 downloads of my eBooks since yesterday and I have no clue how anybody found out about it, since I forgot to announce it. However, it was really cool to see so many downloads, since I’ve been participating in the free download sales for about 15 years already and I find it astounding that there is anyone left in the universe who hasn’t already gotten these free eBooks…

I’ve been on an O.C. Smith kick lately while driving. I leave you with his huge hit from 1968: “The Son of Hickory Holler’s Tramp”! Enjoy, gang!!

SCOTUS Update

Just in

“The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday said former President Donald Trump is entitled to some immunity from criminal prosecution for actions taken to overturn results of the 2020 election but sent the case back to the trial court to sort out which charges can stand, effectively delaying any potential trial until after the November election.

The blockbuster decision split the court along ideological lines. The 6-3 opinion was delivered by Chief Justice John Roberts.

“The President is not above the law,” the opinion read. “But under our system of separated powers, the President may not be prosecuted for exercising his core constitutional powers, and he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for his official acts. That immunity applies equally to all occupants of the Oval Office….\[…] The historic decision dramatically outlines the boundaries of presidential power, making clear for the first time that former presidents are entitled to absolute immunity for “core” official acts but have no immunity for “unofficial” acts.

The justices are sending the case back to the district court to determine what acts alleged in special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment constitute official duties that could be protected from liability and which are not. […]

Another Amazing Monday in the Hinterlands!

Great weather again today, gang. I’m guessing this is going to be a really productive day.

I am actually on a sort of “holiday” — I have 5 days off in a row this week because the train station is closed on the 4th of July.

Also — it looks like we might have been really lucky to have already had our fireworks on such a perfect night (this past Friday), because as of now, they are expecting rain here on the 4th. We shall see.

********

Today the Supreme Court is supposed to rule on Presidential Immunity so we’ll have to wait and see what comes from that.

Aside from Steve Bannon having to report to prison today (which I think is optics but its looking like he’s still gotta go in there), there is not much news.

From Bannon’s War Room last night:

“Charlie Kirk On The Imprisonment Of Steve Bannon During Campaign Season: ‘The PROMISE I Make To You Is That This Is Only Going To Make Us Work Harder.'”

Phil is planning to go live tonight at 9PM Eastern time. Check the link later to confirm.

I’m really missing Charlie. I don’t enjoy the daily news updates as much without him. But here’s today’s update —

In other news!

Nick Cave sent out a Red Hand File today — a celebration, of sorts!

With great pleasure, no small amount of gratitude, and even a certain pride, I would like to announce that today I received the 100,000th question to The Red Hand Files, all of which I have read.”

He went on to answer 3 questions today, and he closed, in part, with:

Thank you all for sending in your questions and comments to The Red Hand Files. I cannot begin to express how important they have been to my understanding of the connectedness of things. Indeed, their effect has been profoundly humanising. …”

You can read it in full here.

And that’s it for now. Let’s see what happens with SCOTUS today.

Enjoy your Monday, wherever you are in the world.

Yes! We are still listening to the Bee Gees around here in the mornings. But we have fully progressed into their phenomenally successful disco era!!

I leave you with this gem from the final year of my wee bonny teenaged girlhood!! “Tragedy”, 1979. This song was popular when I moved briefly to Ukiah, California:

Ukiah, California

And I lived briefly in one of these (same color and model as this one!):

Okay!! Enjoy, gang!!!
