4-3-2-1!

I can’t believe we are only 4 days away from everything we’ve been working relentlessly toward for over four years.

It feels incredible.

Not only that, but it’s sort of been jaw-dropping to watch so many things coming to fruition even before the Inauguration. The ceasefire deal yesterday being a primary one.

And I’m guessing that the moment Trump is sworn in at noon on Monday, the Ukraine craziness will come to an immediate halt.

I guess we’ll see.

Anyway. There is not much to report. We are just sort of barreling toward the next phase — which doesn’t involve me trying to post the news updates anymore, btw. Once Trump is officially back in the White House, my work is done! And my blog will go back to just being my blog.

  1. Marilyn, I’m glad that the return of Trump is providing you some optimism that you wouldn’t otherwise have.

I presume you realize that about an equal number of Americans feel just the opposite. (Trump won by plurality of the popular vote, not a majority, btw.)

And what is the basis of the respective attitudes? Any kind of thoughtful, factual, broad analysis of his first term? I can’t see how that provides optimism (unless one seriously cherry-picks the few success areas and denies the massive failures and attacks on the rule of law, the degradation of mutual respect and ethics, freedom of speech, etc., etc.!) How, just HOW, can a governing system of trust and fairness (things I know you to value, with other “virtues”) be built on a foundation of continual and oft-repeated lies? Now, it’s obvious that virtually all politicians lie some, but Trump is in a league of his own… and by FAR!

Of course, that ups his “unpredictability” factor. I WILL admit that that may, possibly, bring some at least occasional advantage in international relations. But neither that nor any amount of threats, bluster, bargaining talent, etc., is going to end the Russian aggression against Ukraine either immediately or in short order. I HOPE I’m wrong on that. But I know the supposed peacemaking abilities of Trump are waaay overestimated.

There is a certain validity, btw, to the “peace through strength” supposition that I know he believes in. But the concept tends to also promote all sorts of related abuses and often conquests through non-peace (violence) to secure or hold that level of military might that supposedly promotes peace (and sometimes does… just SOMETIMES).
