I’m still hearing more rumors that Toronto (all of Ontario, really) is heading for another lockdown starting next week, so let’s all pray that this is just more fear porn.
I’m having an early lunch in town today with my friend Steve, and his wife might also be tagging along, which is curious indeed. She never tags along! (She’s 25 years younger than Steve and I, and is not usually that excited to hear about stuff that happened 50 years ago!)

Okay, so, it is really looking like things are just barreling straight to the finish line, gang. I’m still hoping the EBS doesn’t come the moment I step off the plane in Toronto or something like that, but I guess we’ll just see.
Chris Sky posted to his channel, a city hall worker saying that a new lockdown is coming for Toronto next week — here’s hoping he’s totally wrong about that. That would absolutely totally 100% fuck up our play!!! We’ll see.

Thursday, Nick Cave will be doing an in-store signing at the Strand Bookstore on the corner of Broadway & E. 12th Street, and an “In Conversation” at the 92nd Street Y, promoting the US paperback release of his book, Faith, Hope & Carnage.
And then Friday, Oct. 6th, he plays the Kings Theater in Brooklyn (with Colin Greenwood on bass). Then on Saturday and Sunday, he’ll be in NYC at the fantastic Beacon Theater! (Saturday night is sold out, though.)

Here, life is just really good. Another unbelievably glorious day is upon us. The kind of day where you look out at the blue sky and at the trees with their autumn leaves, and you don’t need to wear a jacket outside because it’s back up into the 70s, and everything just feels perfect. Plus, you don’t have to go into the train station (!!), and you can just stay home and WRITE (and also chat with Valerie on the phone!!).
So I’m going to get down to all that right now.

Here, things are great but I am unbelievably wiped out!
The train station was so busy last night that it was dumbfounding. We have never, ever, EVER been that busy before.
Luckily, I have great co-workers, and, truthfully, our customers are also really great. They really are — especially in the evenings. They are smart, funny, considerate, patient people of all ages. I kid you not. Which is why, once I’m at work, I don’t mind being there. The General Manager had to come in last night to help us get through the shift. She never works nights; I’m the night shift supervisor. But at the end of the evening yesterday, she said to me: “I can see why you like working nights here. You’re right, this is like a whole different place at night. The customers at night are much more fun.”
It’s the main reason why I hate it when they need me to come in and work a day shift…

But, anyway, my 63-year-old bones felt about 80 years old by the end of the shift last night, and they don’t feel that much better here this morning.
Still, it is a gorgeous day. I’m hoping to go back into town today and get the groceries, even though I’ll be back in town on Wednesday, to have lunch with my long-time buddy, Steve. He and I have been friends since we were 11 years old — since our wee bonny Jewish childhoods. He insisted we have lunch before I go to Toronto, so that we can celebrate that wonderful play I wrote with Sandra Caldwell — “The Guide to Being Fabulous!”– opening, finally, at the end of the month!!!
I don’t know if I have the energy to go into town today, but I don’t think I have enough groceries to last me until Wednesday…
Okay, so.
Today, marks one week since I went to Cleveland and had the time of my life — challenging as it was, at times. Every memory I have now, even the challenging ones, fill me with such a feeling of joy. I am so glad I took that trip!!

Wow, gang. Today is the day that my retirement check came so I’ve been trying to pay bills here this morning and EVERY website I’ve tried to access to pay a bill online has come up an ERROR page or ACCESS DENIED.
And when I call them on the phone, their billing departments all say that they are “making site upgrades” and to try again later…

I went here a lot as a little girl — my grandmother would take me to see movies there. But, by then, my grandfather had been dead for a few years already.
