I’m really looking forward to my picnic in the park with Kara this afternoon.
I am so very glad we are doing that because I won’t lie, gang; I am really fighting depression today. Tomorrow would have been my dad’s 94th birthday — when I was growing up, he and I always shared a birthday cake. Usually one baked and decorated by my mom.
Then, as I got older, my dad and I almost always were together on those 2 days that were our birthdays, even when he and I weren’t getting along so great.
Well. I miss him so much today. But from 5AM onwards this morning, people have been texting & emailing me with various “happy birthday” greetings, so it is hard to be sad!!
In fact, Wayne, my ex-husband who is usually in NYC, texted me from Tokyo, where he is on vacation, to wish me a happy birthday. That really brought a smile to my face.
Next in line was my other ex-husband, in Seattle, wishing me a very happy year ahead and crowning that happy greeting with a “Cash App” gift!!
Ditto my beloved cash-app-using friend, Valerie!
Anyway. I have heard from quite a few people, so that has made me feel very happy. And on Saturday evening, at the train station, they had flowers and a card for me. So, I am going to make it. I realize that life has to go on.

Honestly, it is in my Top 5 of a songwriting career that spans over 40 years. (However, he mentions that the 4th verse is “controversial” but it’s always been my favorite verse in the song… I always seem to be on some other planet from the rest of the world.) Anyway. He says, in part:

Well, sadly, I was right about the meeting yesterday. Starting next week, the train station will no longer be open at night. No more cocktails on the patio. No more fire pits. No nothing.
It all comes down to advertising — their inability to do it. Which I had been begging for, for over a year. So I’m, like, done. (It’s not the owner I was up against, it was one of the investors. Gang, Sandra and I made such great progress yesterday and I am just really, really getting very excited about this screenplay adaptation for our play (The Guide to being Fabulous).
I think it’s safe to post now that HBO has asked Sandra to come back for Season 3 of their popular series,The Gilded Age (she was in Season 1), and Sandra agreed. She starts filming her scenes in a few weeks.
She also signed on for a limited run play at Playwrights Horizons in NYC that begins rehearsals in September, and our staged reading for The Guide to being Fabulous will be in October in NYC (during the run of the other play), so we are just — you know, we have a ton of work to do as her schedule gets extremely crammed.
But I’m excited!!
If you’re interested in stuff like this — more research for the screenplay. I watched this film yesterday — The Queen, from 1968. I loved it. It’s a documentary about drag queens and so very 1968!

In other news —
In this invigorating sunny, 90-degree weather, I’m trying to get the house clean and the laundry done before working with Sandra today. We have a ton of work to do, all at once, having to do with things going on at HBO Max, that I can’t post about yet. But it is sufficient to say, there is a ton of work to do in a very “squished” time frame. Thank you very much.
Today is one of those monumental anniversaries for me — sort of like June 14th 1975 being when I saw the Rolling Stones for the first time in Cleveland, when I was 14.
A month later, on July 14th 1975, I was committed to a mental hospital for many glorious months, after a suicide attempt.
This is that day when I can’t help but take stock of everything, you know? Would it have been better to have just left this realm back then, or has it been worth it, sticking around for 49 (and counting ) off-the-charts insane years?
I’m gonna withhold posting my opinion on that, because it is very, very long and involved. And it is sufficient to simply say, I’m still here.

First off, sorry about yesterday. I’d had a really rough night and got very little sleep — between extreme heat/humidity, and 5 young cats insisting on sleeping with me/on top of me, 3 of whom are still infested with fleas. It was a horrible night. So right after breakfast, I slept for 2 more hours!
In my opinion, there wasn’t anything that interesting yesterday aside from the replay of Phil’s live. So that’s all I posted before falling into a dead sleep.

Tom said back then that, in a phone call from Bob Dylan regarding all the bad press Tom was getting over The Last DJ, Dylan told him : “Just because the reviews are bad, doesn’t mean the album isn’t good!”
It’s a great album, gang, and says a lot of really negative things about the music industry in Los Angeles, before anyone else was saying it (yet).
