Okay. So. First.

On the personally “alarming news” front–

They’ve cut my hours at the train station. But it will only last “from 2 to 4 MONTHS” !!?? Yowza.

So, while the bad news is: “less money”. The good news is: “more TIME”.

I am, or course, someone who always, always, really, really LOVES to have more TIME… We’ll see how this goes.

Yesterday, I heard from Ken Wolf at Manhattan Repertory Theater that he should have his notes for me about my play within the next 2 weeks. Yay.

Meanwhile, I am back to work on my novella, “Novitiate”. Yes, the same novella that I had hoped would be completed by the end of 2023, but which is still only about 1/5th the way done. But I’m working on it! And God knows, I have plenty of NOTES to work from. 

As loyal readers of this lofty blog recall, the notes, alone, were really disturbing and mind-numbing and changed how I saw the entire decade of the 1960s, basically.

Anyway, that’s what I am working on, writing-wise.

Yesterday, I purchased — yes! — another online course. It was on sale! 36 lectures on the “History of Christianity in the Reformation Era.” This era is not my strong suit in Christianity, so I’m looking forward to taking it.

I still have quite a few lectures left on “St. Augustine’s City of God”, so it will be a few weeks before I begin this new course.

But, yesterday, I also purchased a year’s worth of the Mondly App. I had been using the free app for a couple of years now — ever since that Writer’s Workshop that I was supposed to teach in Perugia, Italy, got cancelled. I was using the full app to study Italian, then I switched to the free app to just keep up with my French.

But now that I am likely to be in France more often because of Abstract Absurdity Productions, and since Mondly had an incredible sale yesterday ($3.99 a month to study any language you wanted to!!), I went ahead and bought a whole year. And knowing that I’m paying for it again, makes me want to study my French more.

But also!!!

James Tabor told us (in his Patreon group) about a great YouTube video series on learning Biblical Hebrew. I studied Biblical Hebrew from the time I was 5 years old, up until I was 10 years old. Then I studied it again, a million years later, when I was in Divinity School. I recently bought a course in Ancient Hebrew which is nothing like Biblical Hebrew — it is more like learning hieroglyphics — so I have really dragged my feet on getting started with that one…

But I started the free YouTube series on Biblical Hebrew last night! 10- minute lessons, you go at your own pace.

I’m going to take one more look at my play, “Tell My Bones,” and see if it needs any additional tinkering, and then I will send it off to Ken Wolfe at Manhattan Repertory Theater Co. in NYC for his consultation. I will be very curious to get his feedback on it.

Helen LaFrance was a Memory Painter (she painted from memories, not from live models), and my entire play is her life told through her memories, her dreams, her nightmares — all of it connected to her various paintings. Very little of the play takes place in real time; time is fluid throughout, so it is very complex. There is also a TON of singing — slave spirituals and hymns. A ton of it. So keeping it comprehensible to the audience is a huge challenge. We’ll see if I succeeded.

While I await his feedback, I will get back to some new writing, and then in February, work begins again on “The Guide to Being Fabulous”, with Sandra. This time for a NYC theater company. Very exciting times here.

Apparently , as it comes time again to pay the annual fee for maintaining this lofty blog, it appears that I have now been with WordPress for 10 years.

I’m really not sure how the heck that happened. But what’s even harder to comprehend is that this lofty blog was around for 16 years before it landed here at WordPress.

At its peak (when my blog was connected to Marilyn’s Room, Inc., starting back in 1999 and going into the early 2000s, when I was a multi-media producer, an editor, and a publisher, as well as a writer) I got around 5000 readers per day.

Those years were incredibly busy years for me. Just absolutely nonstop and I don’t miss that kind of off-the-wall exhaustion, at all. But my career has been a very, very interesting journey. I don’t regret any of it.

In addition to the blog’s anniversary this year, March of 2024 will be the 25th Anniversary of my first book, Neptune & Surf, remaining in print (in English and in French)! I am incredibly happy about that.

Yesterday afternoon, I drove my houseguests into Columbus and they bought a really great 2010 Kia Sedona minivan!!! In great condition. So that is a really great development for them. Their stress level immediately came down several notches. And there was much merriment in the house last evening.

Next up: they need a home. Which will come when it comes. God’s got it, to be sure.

I hope you have a great first Friday of the New Year. Oh — last evening at the train station, a solitary student from the local college — blonde, very lovely — was the sole customer in our dining area. She was quietly on her laptop the whole time she was there. All she ordered was a latte.

Since she was the only customer, we started closing down early. I boxed up a freshly baked chocolate croissant and took it over to her. And I said, “Would you like to take this home with you for later? We can’t keep them overnight.”

Her whole face lit up & she said, “Yes! Thank you!” And then I went back to closing down the front of the station.

When she was leaving, she said, “Thanks again!” and smiled a really beautiful young smile…. and over on her table, she left a little handwritten note: “God loves you.”

It made my whole night. When I got home, I stuck the little note in the mirror on my dresser in my bedroom. I’ll probably keep it there forever.

I wish everyone a Happy New Year and assure everyone that I will continue. We will not let up with our educational work and the subsequent legal investigation into the plandemic.

Of course it is very difficult for me to be away from my wife and my dogs and my family and friends. But it helps me a lot that I always receive new information through the many letters and postcards, as well as very personal messages and stories. All this helps me a lot. That’s why I can still say with full conviction and determination: Some crack under pressure, I don’t!

The international colleagues with my friend Dexter and all the others are also still ready to ensure justice for all. This time the broken system will not be able to stand in front of evil.

In a somewhat longer communication in the next few days, I will be able to explain important details concerning both the case against me and our international legal work.

There is no doubt that things are moving faster and faster in our direction. But there is also no doubt that the other side is fighting for its survival, i.e. remains highly dangerous. Do not be intimidated or even discouraged: We will expose everything that must come to light and we will ensure that the collapse of the system and the transition to a new human coexistence without corruption and without violence is made possible with the help of justice.

On the home front —

Yay!!!!! My shipment of incandescent light bulbs arrived yesterday! My home went from having 6 incandescent bulbs, to having 27 (!!). 

And I have this cute stained glass night light coming for the upstairs bathroom on Friday:

It is so cool having all these incandescent lights everywhere again. (And I’d forgotten how I looked in the mirror when the surrounding lights are NOT those really harsh LED bulbs.) The whole house just looks so peaceful now, especially at night.

Incandescent light bulbs are still hard to find in most stores, so I bought mine on Amazon — packs of 8 GE soft white, for $13.99, plus shipping if you aren’t in Amazon Prime.

Also, I’ve started trying to take more walks again. I used to be an avid walker, but now the leg pain from the injury I suffered by working at the pizzeria last winter — they had cement floors throughout — makes walking a real challenge.

Yesterday, even though it was only 27 degrees Fahrenheit, I decided to walk to the post office. And for some (miraculous?) reason, I also decided to wear these very heavy steel-toed hiking shoes that I never wear. Mostly, I wore them yesterday because they are nonslip and it was a little icy outside.

At first, the heaviness of the shoe was painful but I stuck with it. And by the time I got back home, my hip joint felt totally FINE! I took another brief walk later, in the same heavy shoes, and the same thing happened. No pain by the time I got home! Best of all — when I got out of bed this morning, I had no leg pain and I had only minimal discomfort getting up the stairs.

I’m guessing the shoes are like “weight training”?? So I’m going to try to do it a little bit every day and see if the leg pain might get itself gone for good!!

Aside from the great news I posted yesterday afternoon, about our play being among the Top 10 theatrical shows in Toronto for 2023 — and Off-Broadway in NYC being on our plate for 2024!!!!– that is it for the news around here!

My main focus right now is doing the final edits for Tell My Bones and submitting it to Manhattan Repertory Theatre for their consultation/remarks.

This afternoon, I am having my first phone chat with Sandra since our play, “The Guide to Being Fabulous” opened to wide acclaim in Toronto back in late October, 2023.

We will be discussing what is upcoming for 2024. I am very curious to find out!

So that’s good.

But my trip to see my dad yesterday was very sad. At least it started out that way. I can’t post the specific details, because of privacy issues involving his caregivers, but last evening and this morning, I was able to speak with the woman who oversees my dad’s hospice stuff, and I was able to facilitate a really huge change for him that will make at least part of his life easier.

Situations like this are where having an amazing vocabulary and understanding the art of diplomacy can move mountains. (This is from decades of having been an editor in the publishing industry.)

Even though I had been incredibly sad yesterday, this morning, it felt really good to know that I was able to get my dad some relief. Especially now, since there is really not much I can do for him except be present and listen to him. And go to bat for him, when no one else is really listening.
