Another Great Monday Coming At Us!

More beautiful weather here, gang, although the heat wave has also begun. However, I have plenty of fans — including that great new ceiling fan in my kitchen.

AND — tomorrow, a handy man is coming to replace the ceiling fan in my family room.

AND– well, this has nothing to do with the heatwave, but those guys from the County are installing my new front door today! I’ll be sad to see the old one go, because it is 123 years old and I love the history of it. But, to be honest, it doesn’t open and hasn’t opened for decades and there are not even any keys that fit the extremely old iron lock. So it will be nice to be able to walk in and out of my front door if I so choose!!

Okay. This was posted on Tom Petty’s Instagram page yesterday for Father’s Day and I just loved it — it’s such a candid shot of Tom and his granddaughter, and I love the fact that his guitar is on the bed, along with the TV remote.

In other news!!

Nick Cave’s Solo Tour 2024 continues in Serbia tomorrow, and then, the following week, he has several dates in Finland and then Iceland but alas!!! ALL shows are sold out.

And he also sent out another Red Hand File yesterday, wherein he explained what his new song, “Frogs,” is all about!

Oddly, it turns out that it’s yet another love song for his wife, but this time it’s biblical!!

“In Frogs, a couple (most likely my wife and me) walk through the rain on a Sunday morning. An alert listener will deduce that they are walking home from church because bells are ringing, and a reading from the Bible, the story of Cain and Abel, is still rolling around in their heads.

Ushering in the week, he knelt down

And crushed his brothers head in with a bone…”

You can read it in full HERE.

And listen to the song here!

*************

And I think that is it for now. I gotta get things ready for the workmen to arrive. After that, got a ton of stuff to work on with Sandra today.

Enjoy your Monday, wherever you are in the world!

Thanks for visiting.

I love you guys. See ya!

I leave you with this!! Another oldie — but this one, I had actually forgotten about, until it popped up on my playlist! “Elenore” by The Turtles, 1968! Enjoy, gang.

Who Knows, Anymore?

Well, allegedly, the Vice President of Malawi, Dr. Saulos Chilima, and his wife and 8 others were killed in a plane crash.

I say “allegedly” because he recently voted against the W.H.O. treaty, and I believe that is a psy-op, so the “plane crash” could be optics to wake people up to the WHO, but obviously I don’t know for certain, gang.

And in other news —

Nick Cave sent out a Red Hand File yesterday that was delightfully revealing!

“…the winter after Arthur died, I was walking along an empty beach in Brighton and had the sudden impulse to jump into the sea. I was shocked to find that, upon entering the freezing water, I experienced a sudden, violent, radical rearrangement of my relationship with almost everything. I discovered that it was simply impossible to grieve in icy water. This revelation began my love affair with cold-water swimming.”

You can read about his wild swimming in full here.

And you can still get tickets to his upcoming Wild God tour of Europe here.

And in personal news–

I have decided to step away from the TV pilot/series that I was developing with Peitor, my partner in Abstract Absurdity Productions.

While the project is going very well, and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if it gets picked up by a streamer, I just don’t want to write for TV. There are very few TV shows being made these days that I even like — “Sister Boniface Mysteries” is a prominent exception — and, if it does get picked up, I don’t want to give up all the time it would take to write a TV show that’s set for 3 seasons, possibly 4. I’ll be closing in on 70 years old by then.

10-15 years ago, a lot of the streaming TV shows appealed to me, but times have seriously changed. And I have too many projects of my own that I want to complete before my time on Earth is over (I’ll be 64 in a handful of weeks, and I have no less than 3 novels, 3 memoirs, 3 novellas, a new short story collection, and a short film adaptation of my Helen LaFrance play– all in various stages of “not finished yet”).

But Peitor and I are in a good place about my decision, and he is moving forward with the show on his own. And now I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders, gang.

*************

And I believe that is it for today.

Have a terrific Tuesday, wherever you are in the world.

Thanks for visiting.

I love you guys. See ya!

*************

I leave you with this timely gem from yesteryear!! I love this song, gang, and have loved it since I was a wee bonny lass! “”Everyday People” by Sly & the Family Stone, 1969. Enjoy, gang!!

“Everyday People”

Sometimes I’m right and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I’m in
I am everyday people, yeah, yeah

There is a blue one
Who can’t accept the green one
For living with a fat one
Trying to be a skinny one
Different strokes
For different folks

And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
We got to live together

I am no better and neither are you
We are the same, whatever we do
You love me, you hate me, you know me and then
You can’t figure out the bag I’m in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah

There is a long hair
That doesn’t like the short hair
For being such a rich one
That will not help the poor one
Different strokes
For different folks

And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
We got to live together

There is a yellow one
That won’t accept the black one
That won’t accept the red one
That won’t accept the white one
Different strokes
For different folks

And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
I am everyday people

New Day Coming!

Yes, my houseguests are, in essence, moving out today or tomorrow — going to stay with a friend in town, so that they don’t have to spend a fortune on gas.

They are storing a lot of their stuff in my barn, for now, and leaving their unbelievably cute cats behind, for now, since their friend has 2 dogs.

We’ll see how this goes.

I am, of course, anticipating that they will never return for their stuff or their cats. I’ll deal with that when the time comes.

Meanwhile — I will have a HOUSE FULL of cats, but other than that, I will get all my privacy back. I am really looking forward to that, gang. And I am relieved that they will be someplace safe, and not just living in their car out on the street somewhere.

From Real Raw News long time comin’!!

Marines Arrest AZ Sec. of State Adrian Fontes

{…} White Hats, he said, began investigating Fontes following the arrest of Katie Hobbs last September. Information on Hobbs’ digital devices, discovered post-execution, showed that she and Fontes had already schemed to undercount 2024 ballots. In an email dated February 3, 2023, Hobbs wrote to Fontes, “With any luck, Trump will be in jail before the election, but if not, I’m repeating 2020 and will need your help.” Fontes responded enthusiastically: “We’ll make enough votes disappear to guarantee Biden wins our state.” […]

[…] “After JAG hanged Hobbs, Fontes got very, very quiet. All that loud chatter we usually hear died down. I understand they put him on the back burner while working on other cases. Well, Deep Staters don’t stay quiet, and last month we heard Fontes was recruiting state lawmakers to his cause. So, Gen. Smith sent Marines to get the bastard,” our source said. […]”

In other news!

Nick Cave sent out a Red Hand File this morning about meeting Bryan Ferry 24 years ago. If you’ve read Nick Cave’s book, The Sick Bag Song, then you know this story, but it was still interesting to read it again. In part, he says:

That brief encounter at the pool shocked and saddened me, though. The memory will remain with me forever, living beyond all expectations, if just for the melancholy, poetic drama of it all. But it is more than a mere story. This incident instructed me on the fragile and capricious nature of the creative spirit and reminded me of the necessity of constant daily work…”

And that is it for today!

I did a ton of work yesterday — a 2-hour call with Peitor, followed immediately by a 3-hour call with Sandra. And I even spoke briefly with Wayne yesterday, who turns 70 (!!) on Sunday, and is heading to Tokyo in a few weeks.

But the phone calls with Peitor and Sandra mean I have a bunch of new work to do today. (Yes, I am developing a TV Pilot/series, working on a screenplay adaptation of our play, The Guide Being Fabulous, and also working on the staged reading version of the same play — all at the same time.)

Plus, I want to drive to town and get the groceries today, too, so I’m outta here.

Just a peaceful easy song, on another gorgeous day, as I get ready to have the peaceful easy privacy of my home returned to me in time for SUMMER! Yay. The Eagles, “Peaceful Easy Feeling” 1972.

Summer is just around the corner!

These last few days have been just so beautiful. It feels like summer already and that, alone, makes me feel really happy.

Wednesday, I’ll be driving to town to get all my flowers for the flowerpots that go out on my kitchen and front porches. And yesterday, all my indoor plants went back outdoors and you can just see how happy they are to get the sunshine.

Okay.

I’m noticing that whether it’s Q-related or just Truther-related, the “news” now seems to be barreling toward something intense, right? Even Simon Parkes saying yesterday that there is a “40% chance” that Trump will return before the November election. For Simon to say that is huge.

Anyway.

Seems like they are saying that Raisi is dead, along with everyone else who was in the helicopter.

Of course, we never know for sure if people are dead when we’re told that they’re dead, or if they’re alive when we’re told their alive — or if they’re actually under arrest acting out a role in public so that the people can see them for who they really are (i.e., Netanyahu…)

And in other news…

Nick Cave sent out a Red Hand File this morning about his views on God in the human experience. In part, he says:

Understandably, you feel heartbroken about the world – it can feel like a ruthless place, vindictive, and sometimes it seems personal. But I have realised that it is a moral error to compulsively fixate on the world’s troubles, to elevate ‘the crack in everything’ and not acknowledge ‘the light getting in.’ Our pleasures and joys are not a negation of humanity’s suffering, a betrayal of those we have lost, or the denial of our various griefs. They are the bright, necessary, God-filled articulations of our humanness…”

Today, I leave you with this entire movie! It is more research for our TV pilot — in this instance, character research.

If you never saw this movie by Alfred Hitchcock, chances are you will love it. It is so much fun and Shirley McClain is terrific in her debut role: The Trouble With Harry, 1955.

Unbelievably Gorgeous Day!

After one heck of a thunderstorm last night.

But now I must go off to town and run my weekly errands. As loyal readers of this lofty blog no doubt recall, the trip to town and back is far, so I need to pack some provisions in order to make the arduous journey (shown in the photo above).

And just so I don’t look weird, eating all by myself at the side of the highway, I hire my neighbor’s husband and kids to come along with me…

***********

Okay.

Honestly, the “news” is getting beyond tolerable. Especially if you are part of the Truther camp and know that 99.9% of this stuff is, in various ways, FAKE. (And the 1% that’s left is utterly evil, so we keep fighting.)

I grow very, very weary of all this, gang.

From Nick Cave yesterday– a very interesting Red Hand File. As always, Nick Cave sticks to his guns. A musician in the UK is struggling with some really huge questions regarding the music industry and peer pressure and politics. I’m reprinting the whole question here:

I am a musician who has been booked to play The Great Escape festival, which, as you may have heard, a number of artists are boycotting due to the sponsorship of Barclays. Who, in a non-linear fashion, are profiting from the horror that is occurring in Palestine.
I do not support the genocide, I would hope the rest of the world feels the same. But as an artist already existing in a very toxic industry, the best many of us can hope for is a few scraps – the glimmer of an opportunity, a gig, anything to help us get our music out into the world, and in turn make it a better place with the love we promote in our art. The music industry is a place of being told you need to follow TikTok trends and that labels only look at ‘metrics’.

Individuality doesn’t feel celebrated.
I feel as if I am to be judged by my peers and by fans if we don’t cancel our performance, yet my heart tells me that this is ill-advised. I don’t want to be bullied into following a trend, yet I worry my silence makes me look complicit.
Integrity is all we have, so how are we expected to navigate through this world when all commercialism and corporate sponsorship comes from darkness? Latitude, Isle of White, Reading & Leeds are all sponsored by Barclays – it’s a huge expectation on struggling musicians who will be replaced by one of a thousand other hungry musicians if they decide to boycott. What would you do?

Nick’s response: “Play.”

You can read it here.

That’s it for now.

Enjoy your Wednesday, wherever you are in the world.

Breakfast-listening music! (Yes, I do listen to an inordinate amount of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers from, like, 50 years ago…). This was the only Tom Petty song I ever covered in my live shows back in NYC. I loved this song and still do.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, “Don’t Do Me Like That,” from their massively popular album, Damn the Torpedoes, 1979. Enjoy!!

“Don’t Do Me Like That”

I was talking with a friend of mine, said a woman had hurt his pride
Told him that she loved him so and turned around and let him go
Then he said, “You better watch your step
Or you’re gonna get hurt yourself
Someone’s gonna tell you lies, cut you down to size”

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
What if I love you baby?
Don’t do me like that

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
Someday I might need you, baby
Don’t do me like that

Listen honey, can you see? Baby, it would bury me
If you were in the public eye givin’ someone else a try
And you know you better watch your step
Or you’re gonna get hurt yourself
Someone’s gonna tell you lies, cut you down to size

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
What if I love you baby?
Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
What if I need you baby?
Don’t do me like that

‘Cause somewhere deep down inside
Someone is saying, “Love doesn’t last that long”
I’ve had this feelin’ inside night out and day in
And baby I can’t take it no more

Listen honey, can you see? Baby, it would bury me
If you were in the public eye givin’ someone else a try
And you know you better watch your step
Or you’re gonna get hurt yourself
Someone’s gonna tell you lies, cut you down to size

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
What if I love you baby?
Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
I just might need you honey
Don’t do me like that

Wait!
Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
Baby, baby, baby,
Don’t, don’t, don’t

No!
Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
Baby, baby, baby…

Oh, oh, oh

Another Glorious Day in the Hinterlands

The past few days have just been incredible here. Yesterday, I planted the 2 new rose bushes and the new lavender plant at the back of my house, under my kitchen window. So here’s hoping that they will thrive.

I’m heading back to the train station today. Still not ready — I still go in and out of grieving — but on we go.

The “news” of course is crazy, noisy, sickening. As usual. Optics upon optics upon optics. I am really, really, REALLY hoping that if we do proceed to an election in November, they’re not going to let it be massively rigged, just to wake up the final few… I really, really, really just want this to be over already.

I’m not sure if this is correct or not, but I think it was announced that the video-taped chat between Johnny Depp and Mark Salisbury (mentioned below) will air after the Jeanne Du Barry film here in the US theaters.

I will find out for sure when I see the film on Sunday with my dear friend Kara!! Yay!

And we’re even going out to dinner, too, to an old Mexican restaurant next to the theater. Amazing. Dinner & a movie. Just like in yesteryear — before the plandemic, when Kara and I used to be able go out together all the time! And all of this will be at a movie theater about an hour from here that I, personally, haven’t been to in maybe 15 years??? Honestly, gang. My life is so fucking weird these days. So much of it feels like it’s taking place in yesteryear. I can’t explain it, but it’s something that my mind does now — like, constant deja vu.

Awesome, awesome, song from 1967. The first time I heard this song, I was 7 years old, sitting in the backseat of our family car, my dad was in front of me in the driver’s seat . We were waiting at a red light and this came on the AM radio. I fell in love with it instantly!!

Last night’s listening music. I love this song and I had forgotten about it!! It brought back such great memories of someone I totally, 100%, thoroughly loved, who died too soon.

From Mudcrutch’s first album (Tom Petty’s other band), “The Wrong Thing To Do”, 2008. Enjoy, gang!

“The Wrong Thing To Do”

Well, my daddy took me campin’
Out under the stars
Left me by the fire
While he hit the bars
And I broke my finger
On a trailer hitch
Mamma called daddy
That son of a bitch, all right

Well a hundred miles to go
You draggin’ your ass
I’m in a Japanese car
That ain’t gonna last
And you forever drivin’
On the wrong side of the road
Wearing dungarees
That your mother stole

Well my mamma loved me
But my daddy don’t
I’m tryin’ to work it all out
But I probably won’t
I got a woman waiting
At the top of the stairs
It’s the wrong thing to do
But I don’t care

Well she was blond and tall
She was 23
Born into the world
To get the best of me
And she never paid back
Half what she stole
She wanted my money
So I gave her my soul

Well I was flying half mast
On the 4th of July
In a bar in Lake City
With a western tie
And I was thinkin’ hard
About changin’ my name
And headed for Miami
When the daylight came

And from Johnny Depp on Instagram! It looks like he was at some sort of tribute to the fantastic filmmaker, Tim Burton, in Italy yesterday. And below, Johnny is being very polite to the folks that invited him! (Although he’s not smoking so, I don’t know. Could be a psyop….)

**********

Nick Cave sent out a rather unexpected Red Hand File this morning, wherein he was very humble and polite to Brian, who might possibly have dealt, in some small way, with Nick Cave’s “sewerage” issues in NYC in the 90s!!

Yes! I am not even going to quote it here. You can read it for yourself!! But expect to read a little bit of shit about art…

And I think that’s it for now. I’ve got a ton of stuff to get to before I head into the train station!!

Have a SUPER Friday, wherever you are in the world.

Thanks for visiting.

I love you guys. See ya!

Listening-music to town and back!! The Best of Johnny Burnette & the Rock & Roll Trio!! I loved these guys, gang. Such great rockabilly. I absolutely love this song. It reminds me of my hellhole apartment in the East Village, NYC. I played this record a lot there. Play it loud, gang. Enjoy!

And here’s something else that reminds me of my hellhole apartment in the East Village in the 1980s!! I lived right around the corner from Life Cafe and I spent a ton of time there.

A Fine Frisky Day in the Hinterlands!

The warmer-weather-run broke last evening, but at least we still have sun and that’s a lot right there, gang.

Today, of course, is Sunday. The day that begins my real week, where I stare at all my many writing projects and try to figure out what the heck I’m doing! And, for the most part, I have a really great day.

As always, not much “news.” But if you are into natural healing, as I am, this could be of interest. (Dr. Cori Stern is truly knowledgeable about natural healing. I learn so much from her.)

In other news….

Nick Cave sent out a Red Hand File last evening, and it was another one of those fun ones, wherein he answers 50 questions with only a yes, no, or I don’t know.

You can read it (rather quickly, in fact!) HERE.

On the home front….

One of my house guests officially turns 27 today. He works with me at the train station, so last night, after work, I took him to a new smoke/vape shop in town so that he could pick out some things for his birthday.

If you think I have any fucking CLUE what any of the stuff is that they sell in those smoke/vape shops, you’d be sadly mistaken. But it was very bright and clean and friendly in there. And my house guest discovered that they have the best prices in town.

Since I was the one buying him the items, when we pulled up to the store, I said, “Is it okay if I come in with you? They’re not going to think I’m your mother, are they?”

“Not unless I call you ‘mom’. Should I call you ‘mom”?”

ME: “NOOOOOO!!!!!”

Anyway. The vape/smoke shop was an interesting experience for me and he seemed really, really happy with his birthday gifts. (And, yes, marijuana was involved in the items he bought but they don’t resemble or smell like any kind of marijuana I have ever encountered in my entire life.)

(And when we got back to the house, his wife said to me, “By the way, those hemp rolling papers you gave us were really great. Where can we get some more of those?” So that comment right there kind of indicates that I’m not anyone’s mom….) (Oh, and also, I get the papers from the health food store I used to work at, but they come from HERE. Along with THIS, which is also really cool.)

This is what it looks like inside the new vape/smoke shop (photo courtesy of YELP) (and- YES- I was looking at the various loose-leaf tobacco products they sell before I reminded myself, quite firmly, that I DON’T SMOKE tobacco!!!! Aaaarrggggh…):

Other than that….

Have a great Sunday, wherever you are in the world!!

Thanks for visiting. I love you guys. See ya!!

Yes, our driving-home music from last night.

And, yes, I have posted this song here a lot, lately.

However, my driving companion/house guest just cracks me up. He loves this song, too, but has such a different reaction to it than I have. Last night, he said, “This is the perfect song to play at a Celebration of Life gathering.”

I said “Well, I guess it would be okay to play it at mine, but, well, I don’t know…”

Anyway.

Dick Dale & his Del-Tones, “Death of a Gremmie” (and FYI: a Gremmie is a young or inexperienced surfer.) Enjoy!!
