All Right! A Day Off!

A really stunning day here, gang. Although it went down to 41 degrees Fahrenheit during the night. I actually have the furnace on already and it’s only September 8th.

However. It is still just a gorgeous day.

I plan on spending most of it at my desk, working on various projects. But I will definitely take a walk at some point and take in the splendid vistas!! (The village I live in is in a valley of the ~~dolls~~ foothills of the Appalachian mountains.)

On the Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds Wild God tour front (see yesterday’s post) — I still cannot get that pre-sale form to work!!! (Where they send you a code to use to buy the best seats before they go on sale to the public). I keep filling it out and I never ever ever get the verification code sent to my phone!!!! And I have emailed the admin a couple times. I’m hoping that maybe they just took the weekend off…

A great song that will finally be included in the upcoming re-release of Long After Dark by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. “Keeping me Alive,” 1982.

Allegedly, the Heartbreakers wanted this song on the original album but it got nixed by Jimmy Iovine, the producer. Tom Petty’s estate included it on the posthumous An American Treasure collection after Tom died. I love this song. It’s a great song to listen to while driving out on the backroads. Okay. Enjoy, gang!!

Little by little, my schedule is already accumulating more patients. So that’s a good thing. In a few days, I should be able to get adjusted to this new job and split my schedule nicely between doing the senior caregiver job part-time and getting back to my writing.

For whatever reason, the potential part-time publishing job seems to have evaporated. Not sure what happened there. I was supposed to talk to them yesterday, after they had already postponed the interview once.

Anyway!

More good news!!!

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds announced the dates for their North American Wild God Tour yesterday, and in the most unlikeliest of unlikely events –!!! — they are playing Columbus, Ohio this time around.

I do not think they have ever played Columbus, Ohio, ever.

I don’t like Columbus, but it’s a lot closer than Cleveland.

I immediately texted Kara to see if she wanted to go and she texted back, “Definitely!! And let’s get a room!”

So we will likely go for dinner, the concert, and stay over in a hotel.

So nice that I don’t have to go alone this time!!!

The frustrating news is that there’s a special form to fill out in order to get a pre-sale code, to get a chance at the best seats by buying early, but the form is not working!!!!!! Maybe it is just overwhelmed with people trying to get pre-sale codes today. We shall see!

For now, at least. I have to be with the organization for 90 days, and then there is more training (along with a pay raise).

But for now, I am officially back to being a home health aide in senior care, part-time. And I will find out about my first assignment tomorrow….

The training for the new job yesterday was really long and there was a ton of information. I was a little wiped out by the end of the day, but wow, gang.

I worked for this same company several years ago, and it was a good company to work for, but they have since been taken over by a different franchise and these new people are incredible. Such joyful, happy, helpful, kind people. (This is a non-medical in-home senior caregiver job.)

And God is all over that place. For instance, when you don’t hear the staff talk about “being lucky,” but instead they talk about being blessed, you know you’re in the right place.

Today I have a ton of training videos to watch here at home, and then some quizzes. That will likely take all day. Then tomorrow, half a day of training. And then I officially start.

I am so glad I chose to get back into this work part-time. What an incredible company to be connected to right now.

So here is the question Nick asked his readers to answer:

Since it’s a very family-oriented sort of holiday, I hired a local family to come out to the lake with me today!!

The weather — honestly, gang — it so incredibly perfect that I just know we are going to have a really great time!

Sandra spent most of yesterday afternoon in the E.R. A sinus issue that won’t quit. And she needs it to quit because rehearsals for the new play start tomorrow.

So we did not get the final two pages revised on “The Guide to Being Fabulous,” but off she goes, anyway!!

Out here in the Hinterlands, it has gotten really quiet. Everyone has gone off to the campgrounds, to the lake, to the cabins, or to the parks to have cookouts.

The temperature has cooled down considerably, so the holiday weekend is just ideal.

Meanwhile, because of the holiday and its being Sunday today, it is really quiet online right now, too.

You may recall that late last year, we started to hear about a facility called Camp Blaz (in Guam) where the military was holding MSM personalities because Gitmo was getting too full. And the MSM people were being replaced with body doubles and/or deep fakes.

On the personal front —

Beginning on Tuesday, I will start working very part-time as a home health aide for a senior care company that I worked for, briefly, many years ago.

I love doing this kind of work and after what I saw my dad go through with home health aides, I felt that I really wanted to return to doing this kind of work again. (My dad had really great nurses in his hospice care, but the home health aides were very frustrating for him. Mostly because they didn’t engage; if he didn’t need something specific, they sat and looked at their phones and ignored him. It broke my heart that he had to deal with that in his own home for several hours, every day.)

Anyway. I’m going to start doing that again on Tuesday and I am looking forward to the personal interaction. People who are looking at the very last stages of life, in my opinion, have very interesting things to talk about.

I also have an interview coming up this week for a part-time job in publishing. Working from home for a publishing company in Upstate NY. I have no clue yet what it would really entail for me time-wise, or what skills they are actually looking for, but I am looking forward to the interview. I’ll post more when it’s appropriate.

It’s Saturday! It’s a holiday weekend! It is PERFECT weather!

The only thing that I find discouraging today is that they still haven’t published all the lyrics to the songs on the new Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds album, Wild God.

Honestly. I cannot understand a huge amount of the lyrics because often the music and background singing is mixed up way too high. it’s overpowering to my wee bonny little ears.

As far as I can tell, my favorite song is “O Wow O Wow (How Wonderful She Is)”. Even though I can’t understand every single one of the words, it does seem to be a really cool song about the late Anita Lane. I guess, some day we’ll find out for sure!

Other than that–

I am extremely happy to announce that Sandra and I are just about done revising the play for its staged reading Off-Broadway in NYC.

On Sunday, we have one more phone session before she heads to Manhattan for rehearsals of a new play she is in at Playwrights Horizons. One of our goals this summer was to have the staged reading version of the play completed before she had to submerge herself in rehearsals for the new play. By tomorrow, that goal will be achieved.

When we got off the phone yesterday, after about 2 1/2 hours of work, a feeling came over me that was really wonderful, gang. She and I have been working on this play for 10 years now. And even while it was produced last fall in Toronto by Soulpepper Theatre Company, it wasn’t the exact version of our play that Sandra and I wrote.

But this version for the staged reading in NYC is. And yesterday, I felt: Holy shit! It’s finally happening. This is really it.

After 10 years, gang. “The Guide to Being Fabulous” — our version of it — is heading to Off-Broadway, It is an incredible feeling. I absolutely adore this play.

And then, while Sandra is in rehearsals for the new play, I will return to adapting “The Guide to Being Fabulous” into the screenplay version for the producer at HBO.

And also — while that has been going on — I am almost done with the manuscript for my new book, A Man in her Arms & Other Stories. I am almost done writing the introduction and then the book will be completely done, edited, and ready to publish.

And in other good news!

It’s been 3 months since the tornado hit our village and the dollar store here (the sole store in our tiny village) is finally ready to re-open!!!

This is exciting because the thrill of having to drive to the next county just to buy dish soap or toilet paper is a thrill that is just about gone, gang!
